Who they were

Juan José Vivas-Pérez Bustos was born on 29 January 1901 at Almería. He was a layman, a pharmacist and the patron of the Catholic newspaper called La Independencia.

He was killed on 25 August 1936 on the shore at La Garrofa, and Pope Francis beatified him on 25 March 2017 among José Álvarez-Benavides de la Torre and 114 companions, diocesan priests and lay faithful killed between 1936 and 1938.

The miracles

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

The decree on martyrdom records that he was killed on 25 August 1936 on the shore at La Garrofa during the persecution in Spain.

The cause

The cause continues. No postulation address is published here yet. Favours received through this person’s intercession, and offers of help, are best sent to the religious order or congregation they belonged to, or to the diocese where the cause was opened; either will pass them to the postulation.

A miracle approved by the Holy See is needed for the next step. If you know the postulation’s own page, tell us and it will be added here.
