Who they were

Jeanne Véron was born at Château-Gontier, France, on 6 August 1766. She belonged to the Sisters of Charity of Our Lady of Évron and with Françoise Tréhet taught girls in the village of Dompierre.

Although gravely ill with dropsy, she was carried on a stretcher before the revolutionary court, where she said openly that she had not taken and would not take the oath, and that the Catholic, apostolic and Roman religion was the only one for salvation. She was beheaded at once, on 20 March 1794, and was declared Blessed by Pius XII on 19 June 1955.

The miracles

As a martyr she was raised to the altars without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

A young teacher who, though gravely ill, refused the revolutionary oath and died for her faith at Laval.

The cause

The cause continues. No postulation address is published here yet. Favours received through this person’s intercession, and offers of help, are best sent to the religious order or congregation they belonged to, or to the diocese where the cause was opened; either will pass them to the postulation.

A miracle approved by the Holy See is needed for the next step. If you know the postulation’s own page, tell us and it will be added here.
