Who they were

Jean-Baptiste Lego and his brother René, priests, were born at La Flèche in France, Jean-Baptiste on 13 May 1766 and René on 5 October 1764. Ordained for the diocese of Angers, they refused to take the oath imposed on the clergy by the Civil Constitution of the Clergy during the French Revolution.

Near Angers, on 1 January 1794, the two priest brothers were guillotined for their fidelity to Rome. They were beatified on 19 February 1984 by Pope John Paul II together with other martyrs of the diocese of Angers.

The miracles

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

Priest of the diocese of Angers, guillotined with his brother Father René during the French Revolution for refusing the oath to the Civil Constitution of the Clergy; beatified in 1984.

The cause

The cause continues. No postulation address is published here yet. Favours received through this person’s intercession, and offers of help, are best sent to the religious order or congregation they belonged to, or to the diocese where the cause was opened; either will pass them to the postulation.

A miracle approved by the Holy See is needed for the next step. If you know the postulation’s own page, tell us and it will be added here.
