Who they were

In the stretch of sea off Rochefort on the French coast, Blesseds Jean-Baptiste Duverneuil, of the Order of Discalced Carmelites, and Pierre-Aredius Labrouhe de Laborderie, canon of Clermont-Ferrand, priests and martyrs, who during the French Revolution, held together on a prison ship because of their priesthood, died wasted by disease.

The miracles

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 1 July as a Discalced Carmelite priest who died of disease on a prison ship off Rochefort during the French Revolution.

The cause

Jean-Baptiste Duverneuil has been beatified; the cause continues. Favours received, and offers of help, go to the postulation, the office that carries the cause forward: Carmelites in France: the blessed martyrs of the Rochefort prison ships.

A miracle approved by the Holy See is needed for the next step. Reporting one begins with the postulation.
