Who they were
Ján Havlík was a seminarian of the Congregation of the Mission of St Vincent de Paul, born at Vlčkovany, Slovakia, on 12 February 1928, who died in hatred of the faith at Skalica, Slovakia, on 27 December 1965. Pope Francis recognised his martyrdom on 14 December 2023.
The Dicastery's biography says he was arrested with his superiors and fellow seminarians on 29 October 1951, sentenced in 1953 to 14 years for high treason, and released on 29 October 1962 with his health ruined; he died suddenly at Skalica three years later.
