Innocentius
Christian martyr killed in 302
Feast: 22 September (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
Innocent was a soldier of the Theban Legion. On the feast of Saint Maurice, Guéranger quotes the Roman Martyrology: at Agaunum, near Sion in the Valais, the martyrs Maurice, Exuperius, Candidus, Victor, Innocent and Vitalis, with their companions of the Theban Legion, were massacred under the emperor Maximian for the name of Christ, and the story of their martyrdom spread across the whole world.
Guéranger adds that these soldiers are patrons of Christian armies and of many churches. In the account he quotes, they told the emperor that they were his soldiers but also servants of God, and that they had sworn their first oath to God.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
