Who they were
Heribald was abbot of the monastery of St Germanus at Auxerre and was then made bishop of Auxerre, where he moved the body of St Germanus to a worthier shrine.
An old Gallican martyrology praises his virtues, first hidden in a monastery and then known across Gaul. The exact date of his death is uncertain; Butler gives about 857.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
A ninth-century abbot and bishop of Auxerre.
