Who they were

John Hara Mondo, a layman of the Japanese diocese of Funai and a Franciscan tertiary, was martyred in his homeland during fierce waves of persecution against Christians. After a process that began with the Holy See's authorisation of 2 September 1994, his martyrdom was recognised on 1 July 2007, and he was beatified on 24 November 2008 under Pope Benedict XVI, together with 187 other Japanese martyrs.

The miracles

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

Franciscan tertiary and lay martyr killed at Tokyo on 4 December 1623; beatified in 2008 with 187 other Japanese martyrs.

The cause

The cause continues. No postulation address is published here yet. Favours received through this person’s intercession, and offers of help, are best sent to the religious order or congregation they belonged to, or to the diocese where the cause was opened; either will pass them to the postulation.

A miracle approved by the Holy See is needed for the next step. If you know the postulation’s own page, tell us and it will be added here.
