Who they were

Gumersindo Valtierra Alonso was born at San Martín de Humada in the province of Burgos on 12 January 1876, entered the Claretian Congregation, and was ordained priest on 18 September 1908.

He was killed on 26 July 1936 at Barcelona, and Pope Francis beatified him on 21 October 2017 among the 109 Spanish Claretian martyrs.

The miracles

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Dicastery for the Causes of Saints records that he was killed on 26 July 1936 at Barcelona during the persecution in Spain.

The cause

The cause continues. No postulation address is published here yet. Favours received through this person’s intercession, and offers of help, are best sent to the religious order or congregation they belonged to, or to the diocese where the cause was opened; either will pass them to the postulation.

A miracle approved by the Holy See is needed for the next step. If you know the postulation’s own page, tell us and it will be added here.
