Guénin de Vannes
Who they were
Guénin is remembered as one of the early bishops of the Church of Vannes in Brittany, at the tenth position in its ancient list of bishops, between Regalis (remembered around 590) and Vignoroc. Almost nothing certain is known about his birth, family, or ordination; a tradition recorded in the 17th century by Albert Le Grand holds that he was elected bishop in 618 and died in 622, though this date cannot be considered historically certain.
His memory survives above all in the territory of the Morbihan, where the town of Guénin bears his name, with a parish church, a fountain and other traces of devotion to him still found there. His feast is kept on 19 August.
