Gualteri de Guimarães
Portuguese monk
Who they were
Saint Gualter was a Franciscan religious sent on mission to Portugal at the beginning of the 13th century by Saint Francis of Assisi. The city of Guimarães dedicates its city festival, the "Festas Gualterianas", to him every year on the first weekend of August. Although not the patron of the city, he won the devotion of its people over time, largely because of the miracles attributed to him.
