Gjon Gazulli
The Vatican record
- 20 June 2024 — Martyrdom recognised (decree list, 2024)
Who they were
Gjon Gazulli was a diocesan priest, born at Dajç of Zadrima, Albania, on 26 March 1893, who was killed in hatred of the faith at Shkodër (Scutari), Albania, on 5 March 1927. Pope Francis recognised his martyrdom on 20 June 2024.
The Dicastery's biography says he stayed with his people when many priests left Albania, was arrested on 28 December 1926 and, after a sham trial, was hanged in the public square at Shkodër, forgiving his killers.
The miracles
As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Church recognised him as a martyr in 2024.
The cause
The cause continues. No postulation address is published here yet. Favours received through this person’s intercession, and offers of help, are best sent to the religious order or congregation they belonged to, or to the diocese where the cause was opened; either will pass them to the postulation.
