Who they were

Gertrude, daughter of St Elizabeth of Hungary, was brought as a small child to the Premonstratensian convent of Altenberg, became a nun, and at twenty-one was elected abbess, ruling for forty-nine years.

With her inheritance she built a church and a poorhouse, caring for its inmates herself and living in great mortification. She was one of the first to keep the feast of Corpus Christi in Germany, from 1270. She died on 13 August 1297.

The miracles

Pope Clement VI allowed her feast to be kept at the convent of Altenberg.

Why that counted as sanctity

St Elizabeth's daughter, who served the poor and loved the Eucharist.

The cause

The cause continues. No postulation address is published here yet. Favours received through this person’s intercession, and offers of help, are best sent to the religious order or congregation they belonged to, or to the diocese where the cause was opened; either will pass them to the postulation.

A miracle approved by the Holy See is needed for the next step. If you know the postulation’s own page, tell us and it will be added here.
