Germà de Talloires
Who they were
Germain spent much of his life on the shores of Lake Annecy in Savoy. Possibly from Montfort, he studied for some years in Paris, then was invited to become tutor to the future Saint Bernard of Menthon, founder of the two Alpine passes that still bear his name; together they returned to Paris to continue the young man's studies.
Germain later returned to Savoy and withdrew near Talloires to live a solitary life, gathering a community of disciples around him, for which the Roman Martyrology calls him abbot. He founded and led the priory of Talloires, and is commemorated at Annecy for his love of solitude; his feast is 28 October.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
Founded and led the priory of Talloires on Lake Annecy; feast 28 October in the Roman Martyrology.
