Who they were

At Mâcon in Burgundy, in France, Saint Gerald, who, first a monk and then elected bishop, finally led the life of a hermit in the forest.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 29 May as a monk and bishop of Mâcon who ended his life as a hermit in the forest.
