Galla of Valence
6th-century saint
Who they were
Galla of Baginum was a virgin consecrated at Valence on the Rhône in the presence of seven bishops. From a wealthy family, she told her father, who had chosen several suitors for her, that she wished to marry Jesus Christ rather than any of them, and he consented. She returned to live at Baginum, near Nyons, where she spent her life visiting and caring for the sick with tireless devotion; the place now bears her name, Sainte-Jalle (Drôme).
