Françoise Suhard
Widow, martyr of Angers
Who they were
The apostolic letter of beatification lists her as the ninety-seventh of the ninety-nine martyrs of the diocese of Angers, 'Suhard Francisca vidua Menard', the widow of Ménard, and the Roman Martyrology for 16 April names her among the blessed widows put to death at Angers.
She was beatified in Rome on 19 February 1984 by John Paul II with Guillaume Repin and his ninety-eight companions.
The miracles
As a martyr she was raised to the altars without a miracle.
Why that counted as sanctity
The apostolic letter records that their fellow citizens held and called them martyrs immediately after their violent death and invoked them as intercessors before God.
The cause
The cause continues. No postulation address is published here yet. Favours received through this person’s intercession, and offers of help, are best sent to the religious order or congregation they belonged to, or to the diocese where the cause was opened; either will pass them to the postulation.
