Françoise Bellanger
Laywoman, martyr of the French Revolution in the diocese of Angers
Who they were
Françoise Bellanger was one of the ninety-nine martyrs of Angers, put to death by the guillotine or by shooting in 1793 and 1794; the Roman Martyrology names her among them on 1 February, among the laywomen. She was beatified on 19 February 1984 by Pope John Paul II, with Guillaume Repin and the ninety-eight other martyrs of Angers.
The miracles
As a martyr she was raised to the altars without a miracle.
Why that counted as sanctity
She was one of the ninety-nine put to death at Angers and Avrillé in 1793 and 1794 for holding to the Catholic faith.
The cause
The cause continues. No postulation address is published here yet. Favours received through this person’s intercession, and offers of help, are best sent to the religious order or congregation they belonged to, or to the diocese where the cause was opened; either will pass them to the postulation.
