Francisco Polvorinos Gómez
Who they were
Francisco Polvorinos Gómez was born on 29 January 1910 at Calaveras de Arriba, in the municipality of Almanza, province of León, into a humble family of shepherds and farmers. After being turned away by several religious institutes, at sixteen he was accepted into the junior seminary of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, where his formators praised his piety, candour with superiors, and love of doing good quietly.
He went on to the Oblate house of formation at Pozuelo de Alarcón, near Madrid, where he was remembered as deeply spiritual. Arrested with his community at the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, he faced imprisonment and death with a dignity that struck even his captors, and was killed at Pozuelo de Alarcón on 24 July 1936, aged twenty-six. He was beatified by Pope Benedict XVI in 2011.
The miracles
