Who they were

Isidoro Fernández Rubio, a farmer, and his wife Isidra Fernández Palomero, president of Catholic Action for women in Villaralto (Córdoba), were married on Christmas Day 1918 and had three children. Isidra was a recognised figure in the local Catholic community, and the couple were known for openly living out their Catholic faith.

When religious persecution reached Villaralto in the summer of 1936 they briefly fled with other townspeople, leaving their children with relatives, then were arrested while returning for them. Tied at the entrance to a mine, tortured, and shot, they were recognised by the Church as having been killed in hatred of the faith; according to testimony, Isidra urged her husband to stay faithful to Christ as they proclaimed 'Viva Cristo Rey' together. They were beatified in Córdoba on 16 October 2021.

The miracles

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

The cause

The cause continues. No postulation address is published here yet. Favours received through this person’s intercession, and offers of help, are best sent to the religious order or congregation they belonged to, or to the diocese where the cause was opened; either will pass them to the postulation.

A miracle approved by the Holy See is needed for the next step. If you know the postulation’s own page, tell us and it will be added here.
