Who they were
In Egypt, near the city of Damietta, the passion of Blessed Francis of Spoleto, who, for his fearless confession of Christ and his rejection of the law of Muhammad, was seized by the Moors and thrust into prison, and at last, cut in two by the sword, attained the glory of martyrdom.
The miracles
As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Franciscan Martyrology (1723) remembers him on 1 January.
