Floribert Bwana Chui Bin Kositi
The Vatican record
- 25 November 2024 — Martyrdom recognised (decree list, 2024)
Who they were
Floribert Bwana Chui Bin Kositi was a layman, born in Goma, Democratic Republic of the Congo, on 13 June 1981, who was killed there in hatred of the faith between 7 and 9 July 2007. Pope Francis recognised his martyrdom on 25 November 2024.
The Dicastery's biography says he refused pressure to let loads of spoiled rice across the border and ordered them destroyed; in revenge he was abducted on 7 July 2007, and his tortured body was found two days later.
The miracles
As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Church recognised him as a martyr in 2024.
