Dominican novice, martyr of the persecution in Spain
Who they were
Fernando García de Dios was born at San Felices de los Gallegos on 30 May 1916 and entered the Order at the age of fifteen. He was in his novitiate year when he was killed in 1936, and Pope Francis beatified him on 18 June 2022.
The miracles
As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.
Why that counted as sanctity
He was put to death in 1936 in the persecution in Spain, and the Church recognised his death as martyrdom.
