Evethius of Nicomedia
Roman martyr
Feast: 24 February (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
At Nicomedia in Bithynia, in present-day Turkey, the passion of Saint Evethius, who, under the Emperor Diocletian, as soon as he saw the edicts against the worshippers of God displayed in the forum, fired with ardent faith, tore up the notice of the unjust law publicly before the eyes of the people, suffering every kind of cruelty for it.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 24 February as a martyr of Nicomedia who publicly tore down Diocletian's edict against Christians.
