Evermarus
Who they were
Evermaro is venerated as a martyr whose story is wrapped in legend; presumed to have lived in the 7th century and to have been born in Frisia, he made pilgrimages to Santiago de Compostela and to shrines in Belgium.
Around the year 700, while travelling toward Maastricht, he was attacked near Russon, in the region of Tongeren in Belgium, and murdered with seven companions by the brigand chief Hacco. His body was honourably buried, his relics were raised in 919 and translated again in the following century, and he became patron of the archdeaconry of Xanten, where his feast is kept on 1 May; elsewhere he is honoured on 15 June.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
