Euthymius of Sardis
Bishop of Sardis
Feast: 26 December (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
At Sardis in Lydia, in present-day Turkey, Saint Euthymius, bishop and martyr, who, condemned to exile by the iconoclast emperor Michael for the veneration of sacred images, finally consummated his martyrdom under the reign of Theophilus, cruelly scourged with ox sinews.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 26 December as a bishop of Sardis exiled for venerating sacred images and martyred under Theophilus.
