Euthyme le Jeune
Who they were
Euthymius the Younger was born at Opso near Ancyra and baptised Nicetas. Married young with a daughter, he left them at eighteen, in 842, for a laura on Mount Olympus in Bithynia, trained under St Joannicius and others, and later went to Mount Athos, where he lived in strict solitude.
After a time at Salonika, where he preached from a tower and was ordained deacon, he restored the ruined monastery of St Andrew on Mount Peristera and was its abbot for fourteen years, also founding a house for women, before returning to solitude on Athos. He died in 898 and was buried at Salonika.
