Who they were
Eusebius, despite his name, is said to have been an Irishman who became a monk at the abbey of Saint-Gall. He was allowed to live as a hermit on Mount St Victor near Rankweil in the Vorarlberg.
After about thirty years, when he rebuked some local peasants for their godless lives, one of them killed him with a scythe, in 884. A monastery for the Irish was built there by Charles the Fat about the same time.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
An Irish hermit monk of Saint-Gall, killed in the Vorarlberg.
