Eterio de Auxerre
Feast: 27 July (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
Eterio became the seventeenth bishop of Auxerre around 564, succeeding Saint Romanus, in the Merovingian Gaul of the time. Little is recorded of his life directly, but tradition remembers him as a promoter of monastic life and a firm defender of the Church's independence from interference by lay powers.
He governed the diocese for about seven years, dying on 27 July 571, and was succeeded by the better-known Saint Aunarius. He was buried in the church of Saint-Germain at Auxerre, and his name appears in local martyrologies and liturgical books at 27 July, his traditional day of death.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
