Emmanuel of Cremona
Italian Roman Catholic bishop and blessed
Feast: 27 February (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
Blessed Emanuele is generally identified with Emanuele di Sescalca, master and archdeacon of Cremona who became bishop of the city from 1290 to 1295. Driven out by internal conflicts, he took refuge in the Cistercian abbey of St Bernard at Adewerth in Frisia, where he died in 1298.
An alternative account, from the historian Ughelli, instead describes him as a Cistercian monk who was bishop of Cremona only briefly, around 1270.
