The Vatican record

Who they were

Elia Comini was a professed priest of the Salesian Society of St Francis de Sales, born at Calvenzano di Vergato, Italy, on 7 May 1910, who was killed in hatred of the faith at Pioppe di Salvaro, Italy, on 1 October 1944. Pope Francis recognised his martyrdom on 18 December 2024.

The Dicastery's biography says he was ordained on 16 March 1935 and devoted himself to educating the young; the Nazis captured him after he went to the scene of the Creda massacre to bring the sacraments to survivors, and he was executed at Pioppe di Salvaro.

The miracles

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Church recognised him as a martyr in 2024.

The cause

The cause continues. No postulation address is published here yet. Favours received through this person’s intercession, and offers of help, are best sent to the religious order or congregation they belonged to, or to the diocese where the cause was opened; either will pass them to the postulation.

A miracle approved by the Holy See is needed for the next step. If you know the postulation’s own page, tell us and it will be added here.
