Dulcidius
5th century bishop of Agen
Feast: 16 October (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
According to an old breviary of Agen, Dulcidius was chosen by Saint Febadius to succeed him as bishop of that city, placing him in the 5th century. He is credited with building the basilica in honour of Saint Caprasius and Saint Fides. His relics were saved from destruction and transferred from the priory of Chamberet to the parish church of the village, in a fine casket whose enamelled plaque shows his burial. In popular speech his name also appears as Doucet, Doucis, Doux or Dulcet.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
Bishop of Agen who firmly defended the Catholic faith against Arianism; Roman Martyrology, feast 17 October.
