Who they were

In the city of Sendai in Japan, Blessed Diogo de Carvalho, priest of the Society of Jesus and martyr, who, after insults, prison and exhausting journeys made in the depths of winter, finally subjected to the torture of icy water, confessed Christ with fearless faith together with many companions.

The miracles

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 22 February as a Jesuit priest who died by the torture of icy water at Sendai, confessing Christ with many companions.

The cause

Diogo de Carvalho has been beatified; the cause continues. Favours received, and offers of help, go to the postulation, the office that carries the cause forward: Jesuits: the cause of Diogo de Carvalho.

A miracle approved by the Holy See is needed for the next step. Reporting one begins with the postulation.
