Cointha
Christian martyr (†249)
Feast: 8 February (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
At Alexandria in Egypt, commemoration of Saint Cointha, martyr, whom the pagans under the emperor Decius wanted to force to worship idols; and since she loathed them and refused to do so, they bound her feet and dragged her thus through the squares of the city, tearing her apart in a horrible torment.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: she has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers her on 8 February as a martyr of Alexandria dragged through the city under Decius for refusing to worship idols.
