Clemencia de San Juan Bautista Riba y Mestres
Sister of the Daughters of Mary of the Pious Schools, martyr of the persecution in Spain
Who they were
The decree on martyrdom records that she was born at Igualada in the province of Barcelona on 6 October 1893, was herself a pupil of the college at Igualada, and professed on 31 May 1919, after which she was sent to the college at Valencia; her fellow sisters found in her a great heart always ready to do good, her superiors rest and comfort, and the pupils a mother. She was beatified on 11 March 2001 by Pope John Paul II.
The miracles
As a martyr she was raised to the altars without a miracle.
Why that counted as sanctity
The decree says her sisters found in her a great heart always ready to do good, and the pupils a mother.
