Claude-Barnabé de Laurent de Mascloux
Canon of Le Dorat in the diocese of Limoges, martyr
Who they were
The decree on martyrdom describes him as a canon of the collegiate chapter of Le Dorat in the diocese of Limoges, born on 11 June 1735 and dead on 7 September; the Roman Martyrology remembers him with François d'Oudinot de la Boissière, arrested during the French Revolution for their priesthood, put aboard a prison ship off Rochefort and dying there gravely ill from hunger. He was beatified on 1 October 1995 by John Paul II, among Jean-Baptiste Souzy and his sixty-three companions whose martyrdom in 1794-1795 the decree declared.
The miracles
As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology says he was arrested for his priesthood, put under naval arrest and died of hunger and grave illness.
The cause
The cause continues. No postulation address is published here yet. Favours received through this person’s intercession, and offers of help, are best sent to the religious order or congregation they belonged to, or to the diocese where the cause was opened; either will pass them to the postulation.
