Who they were

Christina, a peasant's daughter from Stommeln near Cologne, had visions of the Christ Child from the age of five. At twelve, refusing marriage, she went to the Beguines at Cologne, living in severe penance and prayer; at fifteen she is said to have received the stigmata. She suffered many assaults of the devil and trials of faith.

From 1267 she was guided by the Dominican Peter of Dacia. Her torments ceased in 1288, and she lived peacefully in the dress of the Beguines until her death on 6 November 1312. Even critics did not doubt the purity of her life.

The miracles

The Catholic Encyclopedia (1913) records that the Church had not yet granted her public veneration, though the anniversary of her death was kept at Jülich.

Why that counted as sanctity

A mystic who endured long trials in faith and purity of life.

The cause

The cause continues. No postulation address is published here yet. Favours received through this person’s intercession, and offers of help, are best sent to the religious order or congregation they belonged to, or to the diocese where the cause was opened; either will pass them to the postulation.

A miracle approved by the Holy See is needed for the next step. If you know the postulation’s own page, tell us and it will be added here.
