Who they were

Cecilia Attendoli da Cotignola was a Poor Clare of the Third Order Regular of Saint Francis who lived between the 15th and 16th centuries at the monastery of Santa Chiara in Mortara. Very little is known of her life beyond her membership there and her reputation for holiness; tradition says she was a woman of virtue who worked miracles in life. She is grouped with two other beatified nuns of the same house, Blessed Ippolita of Melegnano and Blessed Elisabetta, with whom she is depicted together in a fresco at the Sanctuary of Sant'Antonio in Mortara.

She is held to have died on 29 March 1531, though some say 9 April. After the monastery's suppression in 1805, the relics of the three beate, first buried in the convent atrium and rediscovered in 1701, were moved to the Basilica of San Lorenzo in Mortara; a later bishop, unable to verify the veneration and identity of the three from the destroyed monastery archive, reportedly had their remains hidden away, and their exact resting place is now uncertain. She is remembered in the Franciscan Martyrology on 29 March.

The cause

The cause continues. No postulation address is published here yet. Favours received through this person’s intercession, and offers of help, are best sent to the religious order or congregation they belonged to, or to the diocese where the cause was opened; either will pass them to the postulation.

A miracle approved by the Holy See is needed for the next step. If you know the postulation’s own page, tell us and it will be added here.
