Who they were

Carlo Gnocchi was born at San Colombano al Lambro near Milan on 25 October 1902 and ordained on 6 June 1925. His care for young people led to his appointment in 1936 as spiritual director of the Gonzaga Institute.

A military chaplain, after the war he founded the Pro Juventute work, today the Fondazione Don Gnocchi, to care for the child victims of war and redeem their 'innocent suffering'.

The miracles

The decree on the miracle for his beatification was promulgated on 17 January 2009; the biography does not describe it.

Why that counted as sanctity

A war chaplain who turned what he saw into a lifelong work for maimed and orphaned children.

The cause

Carlo Gnocchi has been beatified; the cause continues. Favours received, and offers of help, go to the postulation, the office that carries the cause forward: Fondazione Don Gnocchi: the cause of Blessed Carlo Gnocchi.

A miracle approved by the Holy See is needed for the next step. Reporting one begins with the postulation.
