Who they were
Carino was one of the two assassins who waylaid St Peter of Verona in a wood near Barlassina in 1252, striking him on the head with a bill-hook.
He fled to Forlì, where he repented, gave up his heresy and became a Dominican lay-brother, dying so holy a death that his memory was honoured. In 1934 his head was moved from Forlì to his birthplace, Balsamo near Milan, where he has some veneration.
