The Vatican record

Who they were

Camille Costa de Beauregard was born in Chambéry, Savoy, on 17 February 1841, the fifth of eleven children of a marquis. After a period of drifting he entered the French Seminary in Rome and was ordained in 1866.

As a young curate of Chambéry Cathedral, after a cholera epidemic in 1867, he gathered orphans into a house given by a benefactor and devoted his life to them, giving away all he had inherited to the poor; he was called 'the father of orphans'. He died in 1910.

The miracles

For beatification

René, an eleven-year-old boy — Chambéry, France — October 1910

On 26 September 1910 René, a boy at the orphanage, was hurt in the eye by a burdock burr, which damaged his cornea and tore the lining of the eye. On 20 October the nursing sister began a novena to Father Camille, joined by the whole community, the orphans and some priests. On 26 October he was worse. The next day the sister touched a handkerchief of Father Camille to some of his belongings and bandaged it over René's eye; within hours the eye was improving, and on 28 October, the ninth day of the novena, it was clean, dry and completely healed.

The cause

The cause continues. No postulation address is published here yet. Favours received through this person’s intercession, and offers of help, are best sent to the religious order or congregation they belonged to, or to the diocese where the cause was opened; either will pass them to the postulation.

A miracle approved by the Holy See is needed for the next step. If you know the postulation’s own page, tell us and it will be added here.
