Bertrand
saint
Feast: 24 January (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
St. Bertram, abbot of St. Quentin in Picardy, was a monk of Luxeuil, and lived under the wise spiritual guidance of St. Eustasius. When St. Audomar had been consecrated bishop of Terrouane, Abbot Walbert of Luxeuil sent the three monks, Bertram, Bertin and Mummolin, to assist him in his labors. God blessed their toil with abundant success. After some time they settled on the spot on which the abbey of St. Omer subsequently was built, and organized a monastic community which rapidly grew in numbers. With great difficulty they succeeded in founding the monastery of Sithiu, of which Bertin (Sept. 5) was appointed the first abbot. In 659 Mummolin was elected bishop of Noyon and Tournay, and appointed Bertram abbot of St. Quentin. Bertram died about the year 680.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
