Bartolomeo Placido di Recanati
Italian priest
Feast: 5 June (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
Born at Fermo in the early fifteenth century, Bartolomeo joined the Apostolino order at the church of Santa Maria Piccola in Fermo, then moved to Recanati in 1432, where a new Apostolino community was forming at the church of San Giovanni in Pertica. After 1452 he became its vicar and spiritual father; in 1496 the community was joined to the Congregation of St Barnabas of Milan.
He was known for great holiness, and died in the early months of 1473. Numerous miracles at his tomb were recorded in notarial documents amounting, together, to a regular process of canonisation. After his relics were moved and the church rebuilt after 1529, his name changed to Placido, by which he has been known ever since; Pope Pius VII granted an office and Mass in his honour. His feast is kept on 5 June.
The miracles
Numerous miracles at his tomb were recorded in notarial documents, which together amounted to a regular process of canonisation, though no single miracle is described.
Why that counted as sanctity
