Barses
Syriac bishop of Carras and Edessa
Feast: 15 October (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
At Edessa in ancient Syria, commemoration of Saint Barses, bishop, who, banished by the Arian emperor Valens to distant regions for his true faith and condemned to exile in three different places, ended his life on a day in the month of March that remains unknown.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 15 October as a bishop exiled three times by the Arian emperor Valens for his faith.
