On Mount Athos, Saint Athanasius, hegumen, who, a humble and gentle man, established in the Great Lavra a rule of coenobitic life.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 5 July as the hegumen who gave the Great Lavra on Mount Athos a rule of community life.
