Artaldus
Carthusian Bishop of Belley
Feast: 6 October (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
In the Charterhouse of Arvières in Burgundy, in France, which he founded, Saint Artaldus, bishop of Belley, who, already a monk of almost ninety, was elected bishop against his will, but after barely two years returned to the monastic life and lived to the age of one hundred and six.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 6 October as a Carthusian elected bishop of Belley near ninety who returned to monastic life and lived to 106.
