Ardalió l'Actor
actor
Who they were
Ardalion was an actor who, in the story, was playing a Christian condemned for refusing to deny his faith when, amid the applause, he was suddenly convinced of the truth of Christianity and declared himself a Christian.
He held to his confession before the judge and was burnt alive in an eastern city whose name is not known. Butler says the whole story is probably a fiction, and that his praise in the Roman Martyrology was taken by Baronius from Greek sources.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
An actor martyr of the early Church.
