Who they were

The Roman Martyrology names Arcadius with Paschasius, Probus and Eutychian as Spanish Christians in Africa who refused to accept Arianism under the Vandal king Genseric; they were proscribed, exiled, cruelly treated and finally killed in various ways, in 437.

A letter of Bishop Antoninus Honoratus to an Arcadius in captivity calls him the standard-bearer of the faith and suggests he was married with a family. The main account is a summary in the chronicle of Prosper of Aquitaine.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

A Spanish martyr of the Vandal persecution in Africa.
