Who they were

Antiochus, a seventh-century monk said to be from near Ancyra, lived as a solitary and then became a monk and abbot of the laura of St Saba near Jerusalem.

He witnessed the Persian invasion of Palestine in 614 and the massacre of forty-four of his brothers, and at his friend Eustathius's request compiled a summary of Scripture for monks forced to flee, and an account of the martyrdom of the forty-four.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

A monk who kept faith and memory alive when his brothers were martyred.
