Angelo da Gualdo Tadino
Italian monk
Feast: 15 January (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
Angelo was born about 1265 at Gualdo in Umbria and was known all his life for simplicity and gentleness. After many pilgrimages, including one barefoot to Compostela, he became a Camaldolese lay-brother and was soon allowed to live as a hermit, which he did for nearly forty years.
He died on 25 January 1325; the story goes that the local church bells rang by themselves and he was found dead kneeling in prayer. Miracles at his tomb spread his fame, and Pope Leo XII approved his veneration in 1825.
